From the formal feedback the AMCRC conducted a very successful conference in December.
The key note speaker, Professor Goran Roos, gave us all a terrific wake up call. He questioned which manufacturing industries are relevant to Australia. His view was that science based; digital and traditional manufacturing made most sense in the Australian context. He questioned the idea of supporting scale intensive manufacturing when Australia had limited scale and faced adverse terms of trade for exporting.
Australia has no shortage of home grown SME’s in these sectors: Acrux, Mesoblast, Cochlear, ResMed, Cap XX, ANCA, Horwood Bagshaw, Gason, Murray Goulburn, Micronisers, Microheat, Maptek to name a few.
The AMCRC is already sharing the R&D risk with many of these companies and is committed to building a self sustainable business to continue to support these fledgling industries.
