Knowledge Based Manufacturing

Developing IP for control technologies and information systems

Program 3 is based around developing IP control technologies and information systems to improve energy efficiency for the precision manufacturing sector – especially precision tooling – and world-first, intelligent-system components compatible with existing telecommunication equipment for broadband network infrastructure enhancement.

Project Examples:

  • IP for large-scale optical, integrated-circuit systems to enable the seamless carriage of larger data streams over pre-installed networks. This technology will enable networks previously designed for carriage of 10 gigabytes to increase to 40, then 100 gigabyte data streams.
  • Reliable methods of modelling machine-energy consumption to increase energy efficiency in end-to-end process design. The work will also allow the prediction of associated environmental impacts of manufacturing processes.
